$ DOWNTOWN DOLLARS $ Gift Certificates for use as Cash in Downtown St. Johns!
The St. Johns Principal Shopping District Board introduced a new program called Downtown Dollars in 2010. The program was designed as both an incentive and a thank you to Downtown Shoppers for utilizing and supporting the 125 businesses located in the Downtown St. Johns Central Business District. (Click here for map.) Drawings were held each month from April 2010 through December 2010 to award a total of $2,500 in Downtown Dollars, which spend just like cash for a variety of goods and services in Downtown St. Johns. (Click here for Business Directory.) To become eligible for the Downtown Dollars drawing, customers were given an entry form each time they visited a business in Downtown St. Johns. That entry form was completed by hand and mailed to the Principal Shopping District Board offices, or completed on-line on this website. Drawings for the winner were conducted each month and formal presentation to the award winner was documented and sent to local media for publication.The Downtown Dollars can then be used like gift certificates to pay for merchandise, food, beverages and services in any participating business located in the Downtown district. Our Historic Downtown Business District contributes to a strong St. Johns community by linking neighbors in a web of economic, cultural and social relationships.Locally owned businesses, when compared to chain stores, reinvest twice as much of their revenue back into the local economy, therefore enriching the whole community.This Downtown Dollars program rewarded that effort by helping keep local dollars in Downtown St. Johns, which adds to our economic stability by supporting friends and neighbors.
Downtown Dollars were a great way to support the Downtown community and reward shoppers who buy locally, and with nearly 10,000 entries received during the course of the year, it was a very popular success!
Administration of Downtown Dollars
(for Businesses: i.e. “How do I redeem them for payment?”)
Downtown Dollars are $25 dollar gift certificates valid at any participating business in Downtown St. Johns, and are valid through December 31, 2011
If you receive Downtown Dollars certificates as payment from a customer, present them to the St. Johns Principal Shopping District Board for reimbursement. They can be redeemed at the Principal Shopping District Board office, either in person (City of St. Johns offices in the first floor of the Clinton County Courthouse) or by mail (City of St. Johns DMB-100 E. State Street, PO Box 477, St. Johns, MI.48879).
When you submit the Downtown Dollars in person at the office, you will receive a receipt
You will receive a check for the full amount of Downtown Dollars submitted within two weeks of presenting them for payment

Downtown St. Johns, Michigan (December 9, 2010) - The St. Johns Downtown Management Board’s “Downtown Dollars” promotion continues to be an overwhelming success with more than 1200 entries received during November, and the winning entry form was obtained at Clinton Electronics by Ms. Darlene Schmitz of Fowler. Darlene was presented with her $250 Downtown Dollars gift certificate book by Downtown Management Board member Mr. Eric Harger of Trinity Engineering and Surveying Services and Mr. Aaron Eberhard of Clinton Electronics.The St. Johns Downtown Management Board will be drawing the December winning entry form on Monday December 20 (just in time for Christmas), so make certain to complete your entry form now!

Downtown St. Johns, Michigan (August 9, 2010) - The St. Johns Downtown Management Board "Downtown Dollars" promotion continues to grow during these dog days of summer with 983 entries received during the month of July. Our monthly drawing winner for July was Mr. Allen Houser of St. Johns. Mr. Bill Brewbaker of the St. Johns Downtown Management Board presented Allen with his Downtown Dollars gift certificate book. Allen’s winning entry form was obtained at Dershey's Cafe in downtown St. Johns, and Ms. Dianne Smith was again on hand (for the second month in a row!) to congratulate Allen as our monthly drawing winner.
